The third directorial endeavor of Rohan Sippi “Dum Maaro Dum” – the most awaited and hyped before the release itself is finally here.

“Dum Maaro Dum” is an action thriller with the central theme revolving around wiping the illegal drug mafias out of the heaven on the earth – Goa. Every paradise is ought to have the devils in it. Here for Goa – the most sought after tourist destination not only for Indians but for the foreign travellers too, the demon is the illicit trade and consumption of drugs- the nasty evil behind all other crimes like rapes, murders and robbery. The movie is about the self-destructive cope who gets the job to clean this drug racket, the student desperate for money and his girlfriend who just flew to US, the singer friend of him who lost his girlfriend in this drugs row and doesn’t want to lose his friend now, and the drugs kingpin who not only pedals the drugs trade but also has his hands on every Goan pie, legal or illegal.

The plot encompasses three different lives who eventually get united with each other having the ultimate aim to root out the drug mafias. Lorry (Prateik Babbar) is keen to accompany his girlfriend to US University, but his life lurks to spiral out of control after his scholarship gets rejected. Then he meets a smooth talking hustler who promises to fix things up for him by dragging him to the unlawful trade of drugs. The cope ACP Kamath (Abhishek Bachhan) getting away with his gloomy past comes to Goa with a sole mission of cleaning Goa from drugs. He is one such cope who sets his own rules to win the games with no referee. Joky (Rana) – a local musician is a mute spectator of what is happening around him. He meets Zoe (Bipasha), an aspiring airhostess whose dreams get shattered just like lorry by getting into drugs trade in the desperation for achieving what she wants by hook or by crook. Joky drifts pointlessly through his life after a tryst with drug mafia cost him everything he loved. Lorsa Biscuita (Aditya) is merciless businessmen in Goa and also a main trailblazer of drugs racket being the link between all these three lives. The arrival of ACP Kamath makes biscuita helpless and makes him to go for the last resort – the ultimate drug kingpin known as Michael Barbossa – the shadow that hides in the background, the invisible personality, whom no one knows or have seen ever before.

The Performances of each character is superb. Abhishek Bachhan acted really well being a lone cope and has created amazing impact in each frame, be it of fury, frustration, or fight. Rana Daggubati, making a Bollywood debut has well-done justice to his character by showing his potential working with top stars of B-Town. For Prateik Babbar, though it’s his third movie only, he could prove his versatility very well playing a goan boy. Bipasha Basu, Adita Pancholi and the support casts also adds fire to the frame.

“Dum Maaro Dum” has splendid cinematography, thanks to Amit Roy. The scenes of hippies getting stoned are shot flamboyantly. Background score by Midival Punditz is gripping and hits the mark. But it isn’t a straight clean shot, the plot in the second half lack the necessary profundity needed. Such type of thrillers always flourishes with riveting twists and turns which entirely lacks in DMD. The enthralling first half gets followed by boring and impatient second half. The scenes running towards climax are tedious.

Overall it’s an Average Movie, am going with 5 points out of 10.
